POSSIBLE CAUSES
What is Happening to My Hair?
Your genetics can play a role in the amount and texture of your hair, so even as a young adult you might wish for a fuller, more luxuriant head of hair.
Heredity determines whether you start to lose hair as you get older. Male-pattern baldness is fairly common and is typically characterized by thinning at the crown and/or a receding hairline. But women can also experience a similar issue: female-pattern baldness. This most often appears as thinning or balding in various areas of the scalp.
But, this is just one of several factors that can cause hair loss or thinning. Let’s take a look at some others.
Aging
As you get older, hair growth slows and your hairs become finer and may lose pigment. So you may experience thinning, in certain areas or overall, making your scalp more visible.
Alopecia Areata
This medical condition affects millions of men and women and is characterized by sudden hair loss that occurs in patches. Alopecia areata is thought to be brought on by severe stress and manifests with the immune system attacking hair follicles.
Hormonal Changes
Up to 50% of women lose hair after pregnancy and this can continue for several months. The rise in hormones during pregnancy allows hair to remain in place, even during its resting phase, which precludes actual loss. When hormone levels begin to return to normal postpartum, the hairs that were in the resting phase will fall out.
As women head into menopause, estrogen and progesterone levels begin to drop steadily. This causes less hair to grow and more to fall out, giving women’s hair a thinner appearance. For men, a drop in testosterone can be blamed. Individual hair follicles begin to shrink and over time, those follicles lose their ability to regenerate new hair, thus thinning and balding become apparent.
SOLUTIONS
A Personalized Plan
We offer a few different treatment options depending on your unique situation. Whether your hair is thinning or you’re ready to cleanse your scalp to allow more natural growth, our skilled aestheticians will guide you to the appropriate solution.
Nutrafol®
One option is to prescribe a hair regrowth supplement called Nutrafol. This is an FDA-approved supplement that, when used consistently, stimulates new hair growth and improves hair health. Nutrafol gives your hair a “head start” on better health, enabling other treatments to work even better for you.
HydraFacial® Keravive Scalp Treatment
This is similar to our popular HydraFacial® skin treatment, but this version is specifically designed to improve skin on the scalp rather than on your face. It is safe even for pregnant women, because we can adjust the serum formula for each patient.
HydraFacial Keravive deep cleans in ways shampooing cannot, removing accumulated debris from hair follicles. When dry shampoo, hair products, oil, sebum, dandruff and dead skin cells build up over time, it prevents whatever topical products you’re using to improve hair health from doing their job. Keravive cleaning enables PRP or serum applications and hair growth spray to work better.
AquaFirmeXS
AquaFirmeXS is the latest medical innovation specially designed to help exfoliate, oxygenate and permeate nutrients into the skin and scalp area. We use custom-tailored exosome based serums to address your own unique hair growth/hair loss concerns. This treatment helps to revitalize your skin and scalp using ultrasound technology to penetrate the dermal layer of the scalp, where it can deliver the serums effectively and without any pain.
