What are the best sun protection products and treatments?
There are quite a few medical-grade sunscreens out there. Some of my favorites are Elta MD UV Clear 46 SPF, ZO skin health, Obagi Sun Shield 50 SPF, and Neocutis Microday 30 SPF.
How do you suggest to include a sun protection product in your daily skincare routine?
There are a couple of ways to include an SPF in your daily routine. I love using the ZO skin health sunscreen 30 + primer under my makeup. This acts as a bluing agent and softens the appearance of pores so your makeup goes beautifully.
Also, I suggest using a mineral makeup with sunscreen. We carry the Jane Iredale skincare makeup line. I have been using this brand personally for years. As a makeup artist and aesthetician, I cannot say enough good things about this line! The glow time BB cream foundation has 25 SPF full spectrum coverage and is water/sweat resistant for 50 mins. It is also packed with skin-loving ingredients, antioxidants and gives your skin the most beautiful glow. I don’t leave the house without it on!
What should you look for in sunscreen or sun-protective product?
When you are picking a sunscreen, it is important to use a physical block or a mixture of certain chemical SPF especially on your face, neck and decollete. Certain chemical sunscreens can cause irritation for those who have active skin conditions like rosacea, acne and melasma. I always recommend using a sunscreen with at least one physical block in the ingredients.
Physical block sunscreens contain minerals such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These type of sunscreens sit on top of the skin and act as a shield to deflect and scatter UVA rays away from the skin instead of heating up the skin like chemical sunscreens.

What are your thoughts on the new FDA regulations of sunscreen?
I think the new regulations are very important. It is so important to read the ingredients and know what in your skincare products. Not all sunscreens are created equally. The new regulations require all over the counter sunscreen products to be generally recognized as safe and effective (GRASE) with the two sun-blocking ingredients — zinc oxide and titanium dioxide — deemed sufficiently safe for use Which are both physical block SPF’s and require that all sunscreens sold must have UVA and UVA full-spectrum coverage.
Best treatments that combat sun damage:
The best treatment for sun damage is of course prevention.
- Wearing a daily full spectrum SPF of at least 30.
- Vitamin C daily and antioxidants. (Skinbetter Alto Defense Serum, ZO Skin Health Ossential-C And C-Bright serums)
For more intense sun damage there are a variety of products that help.
Annalise is amazing, I tell anyone who will listen to go to her!
