Oh, those plump, kissable lips. You can get almost any lip look you want with filler injections, and with the right product and a skilled provider, your lips will look and feel entirely natural. But how long will your lip injections last? If you come to Image Surgical Arts for your lip enhancement, your results will probably last about a year.
We always remind patients that individual results may vary, and in the case of lip injections that is certainly true. All dermal fillers are temporary. Whether they last a few months or a few years depends on the product itself, how much is used, where it is used, and each patient’s age, lifestyle, and personal body chemistry.
Restylane Kysse is Made Specifically for Lips
At Image Surgical Arts, we offer a wide range of dermal fillers, but we use Restylane Kysse for lip enhancement. Kysse is formulated specifically for lips – it’s softer than other products because feel is as important as appearance when it comes to lips.
With their experience using Kysse, our expert injectors are adept at choosing exactly the right amount of product and placing it very precisely to achieve the result you desire. They can make subtle or more dramatic changes that will:
- Better define the border of your lips
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Restore volume lost to aging or add volume to give your lips a more sumptuous look
- Balance asymmetrical lips
After Your Treatment
No touching! Tempting as it might be to touch your lips right away, you’ll need to refrain. The filler needs time to settle in, and touching or massaging the area too soon can displace the product.
Longevity Is in the Eye of the Beholder You can think of the lifespan of your lip injections in two ways – how long the filler literally stays in place, and how long your lips will retain their visibly modified shape. Like many fillers, Kysse is made from hyaluronic acid. This is a substance produced naturally by the body, primarily to help retain moisture in skin and connective tissues, which is why it’s so great for adding volume.
However, it is absorbed over time and as that happens your new, plumper lips will gradually decrease in size again. If we’ve used a small amount of product to make a subtle change, that gradual loss won’t be so noticeable, so your overall result may appear to last longer. If we use a more significant amount of filler, absorption may take longer but it will be more noticeable, so you may want refresher injections sooner. Generally, though, you can expect your lips to retain their new shape for about one year.
Temporary can be good! The temporary nature of fillers offers some positive benefits. For instance, when it’s time for another treatment, you can decide to simply go without and let your lips revert to their “before” state (trends do change). Or you may choose to have more or less product injected in order to modify the aesthetic look you originally wanted, now that you’ve had a year or so to live with it. And because your body will continue to age and naturally lose moisture, you may decide to add a bit more filler next time, to make up for that lost volume and also reducing the appearance of fine lines.
Typically lip injections require just one appointment. Your lips may look over-plumped at first, but don’t worry, that’s only due to minor swelling you will experience for the first 4-5 days. Once that subsides, your new look will be revealed. You may even decide on a second treatment to add more volume.
